!!!!!!!!!!CHRONICLES OF NARNIA SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!

So this song was inspired by The Chronicles of Narnia, specifically two books: "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe", and "The Last Battle".

In LWW, one of the characters, Edmund Pevensie, gets tempted by Turkish delight offered by Jadis the White Witch to betray his family for more Turkish delight. Edmund knew what was right, but he was torn by his temptation. The first verse of this song follows the story of someone who knows what is right and knows the truth, but is torn between their own desires and giving into temptation.

MAJOR SPOILER AHEAD

The second verse is someone who follows the same path as Susan Pevensie. By the time of "The Last Battle", Susan has stopped believing in Narnia, and dismisses it as her imagination, a silly game she used to play with her siblings. This verse is told from the perspective of someone who once believed in God, but has left the faith and no longer accepts any of it. That person has completely chosen their own "Turkish delight."

The last verse follows the story of the Lucy Pevensies of the world. The ones who started out strong and finished strong. Those with unwavering faith. Those who know where they stand and are unashamed and unapologetic about it.

Personally, I have found myself feeling/experiencing two of those perspectives before (Edmund & Lucy), and if I'm going to be completely honest, there was a point where I could have went down a path that would lead me to experiencing all three (Susan's) as well. Really, I wrote the first lyrics for this song at least six or seven months ago, but as with every song, it took a lifetime to write. It's my hope and prayer that God will use my music to bless others.

Anyway, just a little tidbit about this song. Hope you enjoy!

lyrics

[Chorus]
Don't get enticed by the Turkish delight/
The devil dresses up as an angel of light/
Promises and lies may sound very nice/
But the end of that tunnel is as dark as the night/

[V1]
Amnon and Tamar, David and Bathsheba/
Jumbled judgement seems to run in the family tree, ya?/
How will I react in these situations and places/
When I'm head over heels over certain faces??/
I'm weak Lord, I'm weak, and even as we speak/
If a girl came half dressed, would I try to sneak a peek?/
You told me to submit in all of my ways/
And then You would make all of my paths straight/
These thoughts running through me are wack, I gotta get back on track/
Jumping over hurdles, but this line's not grey, it's black/
Like the time sin had occupied my heart/
The rent that it was paying me was tearing me apart/
The wages paid were death yet with my last breath/
In Your presence I'll essence so why am I a mess?/
It needs to be addressed, this beauty and a beast/
I'm Cinderella in her room but this time she kept her peace/
They told me if it fits to wear it, I can't bear it/
If you have a piece of Your peace, can You share it?/
I need something to wear, I'm naked and ashamed/
I'm Adam in the garden, trying to shift the blame/
Snakes and tombs, I'm a whitewashed loom/
As You weave what I breathe, Lord clean out my room/
Filthy spilth under the rug tryna give me a hug/
But when I give it a tug, I'm squished like a bug/
Life and death do a dance that stance me in a trance/
These pics are mere snapshots of venom at a glance/
Symbiote to my Eddie Brock, I'm sandpaper on the rock/
The foolish on the Wise, will You ready my heavy walk?/

Don't get enticed by the Turkish delight/
The devil dresses up as an angel of light/
Promises and lies may sound very nice/
But the end of that tunnel is as dark as the night/ X2

[V2]
I knew it taboo since its name cleared my ears/
Monster fostered in my closet, it preyed on my fears/
Well, I prayed for all my fears, for them to go away/
And yet still at the end, it led me astray/
Maybe there was always a leak, darkness seeped/
Or maybe my age saged, and the light was never deep/
Like a splash pad, I might smash that in a journal/
The memory seems so distant but the impact is eternal/
Why am I to blame? Please don't shame me for growing/
There must have been some weeds near the seeds that You were sowing/
You say that it's idolatry, I say that it's all fiction/
Force me in that direction, expect there to be friction/
One day I may go back, but that day is not today/
They say that life's a game so I may go out to play/
On the grounds that I'm happy, isn't that what matters?/
You say You're still waiting for me? I'm flattered/
I really thought I knew You, once upon a time/
Lock me up if forgetting my other life is a crime/
I took off my wedding ring that I wore in that dream/
I tore the seams of that fabric, it's not what it seems/
That poison's potion wore off, I tore off that mask/
I once was drunk off euphoria, but finished that flask/
I diminished my past like it wore the minish cap/
My mind is a hearse, and that memory is black/
I scaled a wall to recall that time in my life/
But I fell down that well and it caused me strife/
I'm pretty sure it was a figment of my imagination/
And now I've got no heart like it's 2 weeks gestation/

Don't get enticed by the Turkish delight/
The devil dresses up as an angel of light/
Promises and lies may sound very nice/
But the end of that tunnel is as dark as the night/ X2

[V3]
Like a Newton's Cradle I'll finish the way I start/
The beating in my chest's a clock ticking in my heart/
So when I breathe my last, til death do us meet/
I've got a sure foundation that's lying beneath my feet/
From the moment we met I knew You were real/
Evident when you roll back my life like a wheel/
You've driven my heart from the very start/
So I don't walk by sight, my faith is a spark/
Your words will never depart from my lips/
Matter fact, if You look closely, it's the only thing that drips/
Living Water that I drink from You, the Living Author/
So my faith's a gift guarded sent from the giving Father/
Good and perfect, so I know that it's worth it/
They say seek and you will find, well I've searched it/
My heart and mind are all ears, so I've heard it/
It's a gift given by Your grace, I ain't earned it/
I know that You're for me, my life is Your story/
So Lord, mould this lump of clay for Your glory/
The devil may trip me but today is not that day/
I know life's not a game, so I war, I don't play/
Is it ok if I stay and I bask in Your heat?/
I walk according to Your word so there's light on my feet/
Gave up Your life for mine, did it to set me free/
The only substitute perfect to that degree/
In Your power and glory Your rose on the third/
Over coffins You're sovereign, my mind is always stirred/
Your Spirit lives inside me so now within the night/
I know I've got the power to reject Turkish Delight/

Don't get enticed by the Turkish delight/
The devil dresses up as an angel of light/
Promises and lies may sound very nice/
But the end of that tunnel is as dark as the night/ X2
